Prom

April 30, 2021

Dear HSHS Juniors, Seniors, Parents/Guardians:

We wanted to provide you with an update regarding prom. In March we made the decision to push prom back to a tentative date of May 8, to allow us more time to evaluate health/safety guidelines as related to hosting a social event.  After review, the health/safety guidelines have not changed.  If prom were held under current guidelines, capacity would be limited to less than 50 people, social distancing of at least 6-feet apart would be required, all would be required to wear a mask if not able to social distance, and students would not be able to dance as venues are required to close all dance floors.

The District is supportive of providing a prom, as long as health/safety guidance can be followed and a majority of the students are interested in attending the event.  Throughout this week, we met with our junior and senior students on multiple occasions. The students were surveyed to gauge their interest in attending prom under the current health/safety guidance. In summary, approximately 80% of students indicated they would not attend prom and 20% of students indicated they would attend prom under the current health/safety guidance.

After careful thought and in consideration of the health and safety of all, it has been  decided to cancel prom for the 2020-2021 school year.  We know this news is unfortunate and are disappointed that such a decision has to be made.  We plan to meet with our Post-Prom Parent Committee to distribute gifts similar to what we did last year in June.

Sincerely,

Dr. Jon D. Hill                                                                                        Dr. Michael Miller
